ABOUT TRANSFORM 5th
Looking at this one block section of SW 5th Street at Jose Martí Park, we see nothing but potential. Today, SW 5th Street cuts Jose Martí Park into two disconnected pieces. Excessive fencing, lack of design, color and activities, limited lighting, and a street open to speeding cars means few people want to be here or consider using this area to access the park.
Yet, we know that a beautiful, active 5th Street means a healthier, stronger, and more prosperous community.
BE PART OF THE MAGIC
Starting in mid-October 2019 with Little Havana’s 1st Cardboard Challenge, SW 5th Street is coming alive with a variety of community and cultural activities — from free weekly Zumba classes to a Dia de los Muertos Festival. Join in on any of the activities below, or reach out to become more involved.
LED BY COMMUNITY
Our team is constantly talking with residents, frequent park users, community partners and local leaders. They share what they’d like to see happen on SW 5th Street and throughout Jose Martí Park. We share what we think is possible. Together, we’ve gone from imagination and inspiration to implementable activities and initiatives — all aimed at transforming 5th Street an active, safe, and beautiful public space.
This project is made possible by generous support from Health Foundation of South Florida and Miami-Dade County District 5 Commissioner Eileen Higgins and in partnership with Live Healthy Little Havana, City of Miami District 3 Commissioner Joe Carollo, and Miami Center for Architecture & Design.
